[Here's the church; Here's the steeple, Open the doors...]

Maybe you remember this children's rhyme complete with the hand motions.  You might even be trying those hand motions right now as your fingers interlock to form the faithful finger-people attending Sunday service inside your hands.  Next, you begin to stretch out your index fingers upward making your "hand-church" take shape as you form the steeple.  And now, with great dexterity, you touch the sides of your thumbs together making the doors.

At this point if you're anything like me, your hands begin to cramp up and the joint pain makes all this maneuvering a bit too uncomfortable to wait for the big reveal.

I've noticed that kid-fingers and adult-fingers operate much differently:  The size and limited flexibiltiy of my hands have made these movements  more complicated and painful...kind of like life.  With all of life's stresses, complications and pain , isn't it good to know that the focus of the church is to be joy-filled, life giving and uncomplicated.

Even if you don’t know the children’s poem, it's important to know that the church is not just about structure, steeple, or shape…It’s about God inviting people to join together in a community of grace under the loving leadership of His Son, Jesus. Church is also about people responding to God's invitation by devoting themselves to Him through worshipful celebration, personal growth and fellowship.

It's like a family, a building, or a body formed through intimate connections in our relationships with God and with one another.  We're not here to create something more complicated, we're here simply to enjoy what God is already doing in our midst-Detrick Bonhoeffer said it best, “We don't create church, we simply acknowledge it".

The Sanctuary is more than just the faithful "finger-people" from the poem.  We are a diverse group of real individuals walking together in Christian love, seeking to follow Christ.   We are associated with the Assemblies of God, a fellowship of people who have been transformed by the wonderful saving grace of Jesus Christ and are committed to grow in and share His love with others.

Our fellowship is known for our creative approach to ministry, solid Bible teaching, intimate worship and a strong volunteer presence in the community.  We meet in rented facilities, homes and wherever God would have us touch lives. We're one church with many locations: Sunday Celebrations at E.T. Hamilton School in Voorhees, Prayer groups, and home fellowship meetings throughout the local community.

Thank you for stopping by and learning a bit more about our church. Please come and visit or email me with questions or prayer requests.

May God bless you richly with His grace,

Pastor John Jackson
